This exciting role is responsible for leading and performing structural design and analysis for various support operations (scaffolding, containments, temporary supporting, fall protection, etc.) on infrastructure repair and coating projects (bridges, dam gates, water penstocks, reservoirs, tanks, towers, etc.), ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. This includes creating detailed calculations and drawings to support the design.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Structural Design & Analysis:

  • Design and analyze structures (buildings, bridges, etc.), ensuring they meet safety, functionality, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Perform calculations for structural components, including beams, columns, foundations, and other systems.
  • Use advanced engineering software to model and analyze structures under various loading conditions.

Project Management & Coordination:

  • Manage structural engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring design and timeline compliance.
  • Coordinate with construction superintendents, project managers, and other engineers to integrate structural designs with other building systems.
  • Develop contractor submittals, shop drawings, and other technical documents.  

Code Compliance & Quality Control:

  • Ensure designs meet local, state, and national building codes and regulations.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure construction is in line with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform periodic quality control reviews and site inspections to assess the integrity and progress of structural work.

Risk Assessment & Problem Solving:

  • Identify and mitigate potential structural integrity, safety, and design flaws risks.
  • Provide solutions to complex engineering problems and challenges during the design or construction phase.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Prepare comprehensive reports, calculations, and technical documentation for internal project managers, construction superintendents, clients, and other engineers.
  • Present design ideas and solutions to clients, stakeholders, or regulatory bodies.

Collaboration & Mentorship:

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, construction superintendents, engineers, and construction professionals.
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide them through technical matters and professional development.

Continuous Learning & Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest trends, codes, and technologies in structural engineering.
  • Attend industry seminars, conferences, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Innovate and apply new technologies or methodologies to improve structural designs' efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required). Preferably Minnesota or a neighboring state with the ability to obtain a Minnesota state PE license within 6 months.
  • 3+ years of experience in structural engineering, preferably with hands-on design experience.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of heavy industrial structures (bridges, dams, etc.).
  • Knowledge of seismic and wind design, as well as other specialized structural systems.
  • Experience with building codes and standards (e.g., ASCE 7, AISC).
  • Proficiency in structural design and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, STAAD Pro, RAM and similar tools) to develop shop drawings and calculation submittal packages.
  • Strong understanding of structural analysis, load calculations, and material properties.
  • Experience with concrete, steel, wood, and other common structural materials is ideal.
  • Understanding of construction techniques, detailing, and safety protocols.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting reports, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Ability to work effectively with construction superintendents, project managers, client engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team setting.

Base Salary: $95,000 - $150,000/yr DOE and certifications.
