The Controller has a crucial leadership role, overseeing the company's financial operations, ensuring financial health and integrity, and providing strategic guidance to support growth and profitability. Experience in the manufacturing sector is essential, and familiarity with Fourth Shift ERP software is a strong plus.

Worksite Location: Wabasso, MN - Onsite

 

Role & Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Leadership:
    • Lead and manage the finance and accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
    • Develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational goals.
    • Responsible for budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, pricing, and financial planning processes.
    • As a financial resource, work with management, the VP of Manufacturing, the VP of Sales, and the CEO to meet the monthly budget and goals.
    • Provide financial leadership by preparing external audits, taxes, and regulatory filings.
  2. Strategic Planning:
    • Partner with the executive team to develop long-term strategic plans.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decisions.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and process improvement.
    • Evaluate the financial impact of new product introductions, manufacturing process improvements, and other operational initiatives.
    • Develop and maintain financial controls specific to the manufacturing environment, such as inventory valuation, cost of goods sold, and work-in-progress tracking.
    • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory developments specific to the manufacturing sector to ensure the company remains competitive and compliant.
  3. Responsibilities and Duties:
    • Prepare and present financial reports to the executive team, board of directors, and stakeholders.
    • Supervise Accounting Staff; oversee Accounts Payable, accounts receivable, and Costing.
    • Prepare monthly Journal Entries and posting to the General Ledger
    • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements.
    • Conduct balance sheet and bank reconciliation.
    • Prepare quarterly and yearly payroll requirements for Federal and State taxes.
    • Prepare various outside reporting requirements for Governmental and Insurance requirements.
    • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and variances.
    • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Conduct and assist with various CPA and bank audits.
  4. Risk Management:
    • Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures, including evaluating and recommending insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Safeguard company assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
    • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
    • Monitor customer indicators and lead continuous improvement, formulating, recommending, and implementing policies that will further enhance our ability regarding receivables.
    • Review and validate payroll.
  5. Team Development:
    • Mentor and develop finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Identify and cultivate high-potential employees for leadership roles.
    • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting specific to the manufacturing industry, including production costs, inventory management, and supply chain metrics.
    • Collaborate with the operations and sales teams to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company's manufacturing objectives.
    • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is required.
  • Familiarity with Fourth Shift ERP software is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation.
  • Excellent knowledge of the full suite of Microsoft products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Experience with AI systems (Copilot, OpenAI, etc.) a plus.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on innovation and efficiency.
  • Above average writing, reasoning, and customer service skills.
  • Presence in the workplace is an essential function of this position.
