The Commercial Banking Group Manager leads the activities of and provides leadership and direction to the C&I team within the Commercial Banking business line. This position is responsible for the overall sales development strategy and execution of an assigned lending discipline (C&I, Real Estate, Community Business Banking, etc.).
Roles & Responsibilities:
Optimize team talents by providing leadership and coaching to individuals by:
- Establishing clear goals that tie to the vision and mission of the business.
- Determine staffing needs; Recruit, hire, and onboard talent.
- Document and conduct annual performance review process duties on time.
- Conduct ongoing one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Managing employee performance issues promptly and adhering to employment policies.
- Participate in leadership training opportunities and apply learnings.
Sales and Relationship Management
- Meet or exceed fiscal year individual and team loan production goals (set annually) and credit quality expectations.
- Directly accountable for the business loan portfolio in managing growth, yield, credit quality, and administration. Monitor technical exceptions and past-due reviews. Achieve ROE.
- Accountable for deposit growth and sales development.
- Review each banker's pipeline report regularly to ensure requests are within defined and acceptable industry classifications.
- Review pipeline entries to coach and instruct appropriate lending personnel on deal structures and sales strategies.
- Review with each lending personnel regarding aspects of credit underwriting to ensure compliance with Credit Policy.
- Monitor and, as needed, intervene in the documentation requirements to close the loan and ensure completeness after closing.
- Sign off on each CAP for the assigned team, specifically asserting the Risk Grade assigned to the loan.
Directly accountable for managing cross-selling activities of bankers
- Develop sales/referral strategy for the team and self to expand relationships with customers and prospects.
- Lead business development efforts to introduce customers to bank leaders and other internal partners, thereby deepening relationships and creating cross-selling opportunities.
Community Involvement and Foster Relationships with Centers of Influence
- Build community relationships to grow business and expand relationships
- Foster relationships with centers of influence, including accounting and law firms.
Advises executive management on external factors affecting bank lending policies, competitive activities, community relations, and legislative monitoring.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years relevant experience with at least 2+ years in a leadership role
- Strong sales skills with proven ability to close the business
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong business understanding and knowledge of personal financial statements and tax returns
- Ability to use sales skills in negotiating financial terms
