
January 2025 employment trends saw Minnesota’s unemployment rate drop by three-tenths of a percentage point to 3.0% and the labor force participation rate increase to 68.1%, compared to 62.2% nationally.
“Through January, Minnesota employers continued to add jobs at an impressive clip – an indicator of the underlying strength of Minnesota’s job market,” said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek. “As we all confront an economic outlook that is much more uncertain, we are fortunate do so from a foundation of strength. At DEED we will continue to work hard to grow our labor force, connect workers to good jobs and help businesses take root and grow here in Minnesota.”

Minnesota’s unemployment rate dropped by 0.3 percentage points to 3.0%, staying below the national rate of 4.0%, which declined by 0.1 percentage points. The state’s labor force participation rate increased to 68.1%, remaining higher than the national rate of 62.2%.
